Many vehicles nowadays are fitted with locking wheel nuts. These help prevent a potential thief from jacking the vehicle up and taking the wheel off without anyone noticing. This customer had called us out as they had lost the key. Regardless of the job, we always carry a removal kit in the van as a precautionary measure.

Upon arriving on site, we inspect the tyres on the vehicle, record the tread depth and pressures then generated a report. After the inspection, we evaluated the nut to assessed the situation. As the customer had just lost the locking wheel nut key (LWN key) then there was a good chance that we can remove it without any further damage using the non-invasive method.

For this method, we have a number of tools at our disposal depending on which type of wheel nut you have. Across the hundreds of car makes, locking wheel nuts can vary in size, shape and design. To main method for non-invasive removal is using a brass insert that, once beaten, conforms to the shape of the nut. Once locked into place, the insert can be attached to either an 18v electric battery powered gun or hand wrench and then the nut taken out. Luckily, on this occasion, the nut simply came out.

However, on some occasions, a customer or previous company may have attempted to remove the nut via unconventional means. This significantly reduces our chances of removal.
