So… here we are… winter is upon us again! With the start of winter comes colder temperatures, darker nights and more importantly… TYRE SAFETY MONTH!

We've all seen the news, the UK is being threatened with warnings of the coldest winter yet! Another 'Beast from the East' is set to hit Britain with the apparent "coldest winter in 30 years", it has been forecast to be an average of 3.9 degrees Celsius for January and February 2020 in England which definitely rings warning bells for winter tyres.

When temperatures start to drop below 7 degrees Celsius the performance of your summer tyres considerably worsens, so much so that winter tyres are compulsory in some countries across Europe. Winter tyres have a different tread pattern and compound to regular summer tyres, giving them the extra grip and shorter braking distances needed in icy conditions.

The first thought that might come to mind when you think about winter tyres is "Is it worth the expense?", the answer is yes! Once you purchase a set of winter tyres this is not something that necessarily has to occur every year, depending on your mileage and how well you look after your tyres this set may last you year after year!
