Tyres for Hybrid and Electric Cars

The market for electric vehicles is only going to get bigger, tyre manufacturers are definitely catching on to this! Several big brand names have started to promote tyres with Electric Drive technology.

The immediate torque of electric vehicles can be pretty tough on tyres, especially when you're looking at a heavier and more powerful model such as a Tesla P100D.

Goodyear have done some testing and they say that "traditional tyres can wear out up to 30% faster on electric vehicles", it is perfectly fine to fit normal tyres to electric vehicles but they will not perform to their highest capability. From their research Goodyear have released the EfficientGrip Performance with Electric Drive Technology, they claim as well as resulting in improved wear the tyre also offers extended mileage, extended driving range and high load carrying construction.

Another brand who are investing in eTechnology are Continental, they have designed the eContact tyre which offers minimal rolling resistance for higher mileage, better braking performance and low noise emissions. Michelin have released the Energy E-V which boasts similar capabilities with a reduction in rolling resistance and 40% less interior noise.

We don't doubt there will gradually be more competitors in the market for tyres designed to help Hybrid and Electric vehicles run even more efficiently.
