Pirelli Collezione Recreating Scorpion BK for the Lamborghini LM002
Pirelli Scorpion, commonly found on Land Rover products due to their more aggressive tread pattern whilst retaining good road characteristics. These tyres aren’t fully off-road orientated but are better than most when heading into the wilderness!
When Pirelli was developing the Scorpion, a little-known car company was developing a new military vehicle for usage in Dubai and the hotter climate countries. To suit the sand dunes the now iconic Scorpion tread design was created allowing greater traction on the sand. In addition, a Run-Flat safety system was implemented into the tyre ensuring that even if the tyres were blown out due to firearms, or the driver just suffered a flat, then they were able to continue driving to a safe location. Having this extra reinforcement also helped cope with the weight of the vehicle, just shy of 3,500KGs!
Jumping to the future, June 2023 to be exact, Pirelli are reintroducing the Pirelli Scorpion BK through their Collezione department. We’ve already seen them introduce the Cinturato CN12 for the Lamborghini Countach and the Cinturato CN54 for the original Fiat 500 so, it’s no surprise that Pirelli are taking on another popular collectors car. With the likes of Michelin creating their Classic department, again, it’s only natural for other competitors to look after their original flagship original fitments!
