Auto Motor Sport Tyre Tests
Nokian, the Volvo equivalent of the tyre world, known for their reliability, quality and performance in the wet. But unlike Volvo, Nokian are known for inventing the winter tyre!
In this year's Auto Motor Sport tyre test, the Nokian Wetproof 215/55 R17 94V came first beating the Bridgestone Turanza T005 and the Michelin Primacy 4 in a range of tests. With competitive prices, you'll have the quietest, best dry handling and shortest braking (in the wet) tyre available on the market as shown by Auto Motor Sport.
During the three tests, the tyres are pushed to the edge of their capabilities. A chicane is used to test the dry handling of the tyre and the driver will try and take the turns as quickly as possible for a number of runs. This is then averaged out and noted.
Testing the noise of the tyre becomes a bit more complex. Microphones are set up 1.2m above the ground and 7.5m from the centre. The vehicle must be travelling at 50 MPH when passing past the microphone with the engine turned off to ensure no outside variables affect the result.
Some notable quotes from Auto Motor Sport include "Particularly strong on dry asphalt are Nokian, Pirelli and Falken, who profile themselves mainly with agile, always safe and forgiving driving behaviour." In addition to "The best wet brakes in the test, Nokian and Pirelli stop about 1.2 meters earlier."
