How to Reset my Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)?

Ok, first of all, these systems aren't perfect. Very occasionally, pressure alerts can flag up because of significant temperature changes within a tyre or tyres on a vehicle (perhaps parked in direct sunlight, for example). But these situations are pretty rare. A depleted battery in a sensor can trigger a failed reading from a wheel - which could also throw up a TPMS warning code. Batteries usually last around 7 years before failing to efficiently transmit the data back into the car.

For the majority of cases, if you have a TPMS warning pop up on the dashboard, it's likely a sign of trouble. Generally speaking, a deflation doesn't cure itself! Something has failed, or been punctured. Re-inflating, resetting the system and hoping for the best will probably be futile, sorry!

But how do you reset the system on your car? Unfortunately, there are a considerable number of variants to the resetting procedures across all makes/models. Some will self-learn after a few miles of continuous-speed driving. Others reset at the touch of a designated button sometimes on the dashboard or in the glovebox. Others still require you to access the onboard maintenance systems and manually activate the reset. Your vehicle owners manual should quickly guide you in this respect - and for the most part, it's pretty simple. There are also countless online demonstrations on the likes of YouTube too.
