How Do I Reset My Tyre Pressure Warning Light?

After a puncture repair or having had a tyre replaced it is necessary to reset the TPMS system. We always ensure we reset your TPMS light if necessary following an appointment. However, if you've had work done to your vehicle and this hasn't been done for any reason. Or your light has simply come on due to low pressure, keep on reading!

Before resetting your TPMS light, make sure you have inflated all of your tyres to the correct pressures, as you are about to tell the system that all tyres are correct so that it can warn you if one looses pressure at any time.

The reset procedure varies for different vehicles.

With some vehicles, the system resets itself after driving a number of miles.

In other vehicles there is a button that needs to be held in for around 3 seconds with the ignition switched on. This button can be in many different places, it is sometimes on the dashboard, some older minis had it by the handbrake and some vehicles have it inside the glovebox.  It's best to check the owners handbook for advice.

With other vehicles you have to enter the cars menu through the trip computer or radio/satnav screen and then navigate to the tyre monitor reset system, this can be under the service menu in some cases.  Your cars handbook should tell you how to find it.

If you have completed a reset, and the warning light comes back on, then you need to check your tyre pressures again, as you may still have a puncture or a damaged valve.

It is also possible that a sensor located inside one of the wheels may be failing, they are generally a sealed unit with a battery inside. Once the battery dies, then the sensor must be replaced.  The batteries last anything from around 6 years to 10 years, depending on the amount of driving you do.

We at Hometyre carry replacement parts for most sensors should you damage the valve stem.  We also carry replacement sensors should they be required and we can programme them to your cars computer.
