Michelin Uptis Airless Tyre
It wasn't long ago that we were only hearing rumours of an 'airless tyre'. For most, it was dismissed as if this were the case, how would tyre manufactures make money?
Recently, Michelin has been at the forefront of advancing this technology and ensuring that, for the future, it will be the perfect solution to a aging product that has been around for over 100 years. Some say that "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." But how will anything get better?
First trailed in Singapore, the Michelin Uptis airless tyre was, and still is, used on most DHL vans in the area. But the main market to break into is Europe. Taking the first step, the French postal service in the Hauts-de-France region of northern France has committed to using these tyres on its fleet of 40 vans. We assume so late as they've already replaced their current tyres and are waiting for them to wear down!
How different are these tyres compared to normal tyres? Can you even call them tyres?
Unlike regular tyres, these don't have a sidewall. That's the only difference, but it's a big difference!
The sidewall creates an airtight seal to the rim allowing the tyre to be pressurised acting like a suspension component and also ensuring the tyre makes good contact with the road's surface at all times. If the pressure is released, the tyre goes down and your stranded so, if we eliminate the pressure then everyone's a winner!
The airless tyre isn't a new idea and is a common site on construction sites with use on trucks, forklifts and boom lifts.
In the near future, we hope to sell these airless tyres but, for now, if you're in need of a puncture repair or new tyres in Watford, North London, give us a call on 0333 444 5454 or head online here to book a slot!
