LGV's & Poor tyre maintenence

In response to the latest VOSA Effectiveness Report, which stated an increasing number of van operators in the UK are at risk of causing an accident due to poor tyre maintenance, Tyre companies are urging van drivers to recognise the importance of tyre safety and ensure the maintenance of their tyres is taken seriously.

The 2009/10 report showed that at the spot check points for LGVs across the country, the ‘condition of tyres’ (the category looks at the tyres’ pressure, tread depth and the state of their exterior) remains the most frequent prohibition defect at 26%. Worryingly, this rate has increased from 20% in 2007/2008.
