A call came in from a new customer in Sheffield earlier this week who had driven to work as per usual on a Tuesday morning and once he had parked realised the tyre on his VW Golf had gone down quite considerably since leaving home and he assumed he had picked up a puncture.

He had called us and we were able to come out to him later that same day to investigate the problem and get him back on the road!

Our standard procedure with a phone call like this is to first look to see if we can legally repair the puncture, in the event that it is not legally repairable we always have a back-up plan! We will bring a potential replacement on board just in case we need it!

In this particular scenario the problem was not a puncture, upon inspection we found the tyre was leaking air from the bead, we then found the alloy had corroded, forming a layer of rust type material which was causing the tyre to not seat fully, resulting in air escaping.

This was an easy fix for Hometyre! We removed the corrosion with power tools we carry on board and then applied the sealant, refitted the tyre and the customer was ready to drive home after a day at the office!

This is a common problem we see on older vehicles, if your tyre is losing air and you're not sure why, this could be the problem!
