Hometyre and TYRON Bands
Here at Hometyre, we have been working closely with Tyron since 2003. We became recognised installers of the bands in our initial trading years and a large proportion of our fitters have since been to Tyron Head Quarters for further training on the product.
This year especially we have seen a huge boost in sales of the bands, this has mostly come from the increase in Caravan and Motorhome sales across the UK since the country-wide lockdown was put in place. Insurance companies look favourably at the installation of Tyron Bands due to the safety benefits, having them fitted to your wheels may result in a reduction in your insurance premium.
Tyron Bands do exactly what the name suggests, they keep the TYRE-ON the wheel in the event of a tyre blowout. If your caravan or motorhome got a flat tyre or suffered a puncture during your journey, the Tyron band will hold the wheel and tyre together to help minimise the impact. This will not only allow you to keep control of the vehicle but will also provide you with those crucial extra couple of driving miles to get to a safer place.
The History of Tyron
The Tyron Safety Band was invented in the late 1970's and were originally made from Aluminium, this was soon changed due to the 'catalytic' reaction between the Aluminium band and the steel wheel. Following this, the bands were manufactured using steel which was also proven to be a lot stronger.
Originally the request for a steel band came from the British MoD, this is reported to be due to the troubles in Northern Ireland where vehicles were having their tyres compromised and needed the ability to drive to safety following an incident.
Tyron Bands also have a history of being fitted to other military vehicles as well as the Police and Ambulance services.
Tyron Bands Today
These days, Tyron Bands are commonly found on the wheels of Caravans and Motorhomes and used for leisure purposes. Although, we have installed bands on Police pursuit vehicles with 20" rims, as well as the crowd control vans used by the Police.

We recently carried out the fitting of 60 Tyron Bands for a company on the south coast who build specialist vehicles, these particular vehicles were built for transporting large quantities of money between banks and central clearing facilities.
