Runflat Tyres for a Mini One in Bury
We went out to Bury to fit 4 new budget run-flat tyres to a Mini One, run-flat tyres are designed to support the weight of the vehicle if you occur a puncture whilst driving. They allow you to drive up to 50mph for approx 50 miles.
Both BMW and Mini (and some other vehicle manufacturers) fit some of their vehicles with rims which have an additional inner lip which retains the bead of the tyre. This prevents the tyre from slipping off the rim when it loses pressure, hence why you are able to keep driving at a reduced speed.
One benefit of run-flat tyres is that you are able to get home/to a safe place with a puncture but the downside is that once you suffer a puncture in a run-flat you will then need to replace the tyre with a new run-flat which can get a little costly.
Is my vehicle on run-flat tyres?
If you're unsure whether your vehicle is fitted with run-flats, just have a look at the sidewall of the tyre. You will see the size e.g. 205/55R16 and if you keep reading around you may see 'RFT' or 'SSR' or the run-flat symbol (see below). This means the tyre IS a run-flat, to read more on tyre symbols and sizing click here
