Tyre Puncture Repair Services Return to East Lancashire

Puncture Repairs in East Lancashire

Good news! Our puncture repair service will return to East Lancashire later this month!

Instead of paying for brand new tyres, which can be expensive, we offer a service where providing it meets the legal safety criteria as set out by the BSAU159 standards, your puncture can be repaired and you can continue to use the tyre as if nothing happened! Serving areas such as:

Preston, Blackburn, Chorley, Leyland, Fulwood, Whalley and More!

Nearly every motorist will suffer a puncture at least once in their lives. In fact, it's the 3rd biggest cause of breakdowns in the UK, after battery and alternator problems. Despite how sturdy and long-lasting tyres can be these days, unfortunately they can still suffer at the hands of nails and broken glass on the road, or even those pesky potholes!

As frustrating as they can be, the good news is that not every puncture means the tyre has to be replaced... some minor punctures can be simply repaired! This means that you don't have to spend a lot of money on a brand new tyre and keep the existing tyre going (providing the tyre is not a run-flat tyre).

We offer a service to come and repair a punctured tyre, whether you've just discovered it on your drive at home or work, or if you pick one up on your travels!

What Is the Process for a Tyre Puncture Repair?

It involves using a small object called a Plug Patch which, as the name suggests, plugs holes in the tyres and patches up any damage. It looks like a flat mushroom with a thin stem.

It works similarly to a plug. The stem is inserted into the open puncture wound and the "cap" is covered in a very strong adhesive which seals the gap.

Does it Work on Every Tyre?

Although the repair process is extremely successful, certain punctures can't be repaired. For example, if the puncture is in the sidewall instead of the main tread, or if the puncture wound is more than 6mm across. This is because the shape/size of the wound will not fully fit the device used to repair the puncture, meaning the air in the tyre can still escape. At this point, a replacement tyre is needed.

Other factors include:

  • Age – old and deteriorated tyres cannot be repaired as the rubber perishes over time.
  • Number of punctures – W, Y and Z tyres can be repaired a maximum of 3 times in each quadrant.
  • Run-flat tyres – due to the reinforced sidewall, our puncture repair methods will not work on run-flat tyres
  • Secondary damage – sidewall deterioration, such as bulging, means the tyre cannot be repaired.

What Can Cause Punctures?

Lots of things! The most common cause are objects penetrating the tyre, such as nails, broken glass and sharp stones/gravel. Other causes could be impacts with kerbs, potholes and speed bumps which can even damage the wheel itself!

Slow punctures (losing air very slowly) can also be caused by damage to the rim or tyre sidewall where it meets the lip of the wheel. Often impacts to the wheel can cause cracks and deformations to appear, which affects the tyres ability to seal around the wheel. Check for cracks on the inside of the wheel if you're unsure.

Less commonly, tyre wear can be a cause of punctures and even blowouts! If the tyre is looking worn down smooth, or showing signs of damage like metal wires exposed, it needs immediate attention.
