Driving in the Snow and Slushy Roads | Hometyre Winter Tyre Fitting
It’s that time of the year again when the Christmas lights come down, grey snow clouds linger in the air and the ground is crisp from a mornings frost. Although last week saw record highs for a new year, the coming weeks are predicted to be colder than ever. This is why swapping onto your winter tyres has never been more important for keeping safe on the road. As tyres are the only thing translating the stopping force of the brakes and keeping you stable on the road, ensuring you have enough tread and therefor grip is a big priority.
Winter tyres use more silicone (amongst other chemicals) that
allow the tyre to stay elastic well below 7°C. Like a spider crawling along the
floor, the more the tyre can flex and contour to the road, the more grip it has.
The other major difference between winter and summer tyres is that a winter
tyre will have more grooves and a more aggressive pattern to help disperse
water and slush. When driving on the road in the below image, you’ll want
something that can deal with water and not a semi-slick bald tyre!

winter, have a puncture or just need help in choosing the right brand, why not
