Contiseal Tyre Repairs in Blackburn, East Lancashire
This week we attended a client in Mellor, Blackburn for a repair on a ContiSeal
tyre. Most garages do not carry out these types of repairs as they are difficult
to work on and require more time. However, it is something that we can do!
For those who’ve not come across the term ‘Contiseal’, it is
a continental tyre with a thick tar like gel coating the inside tread area. The
idea is that should you get a puncture, the gel will form a seal around the foreign
object and seal the breach preventing the tyre from deflating.
The process to repair these types of tyres is relatively simple but, does take some time. First we remove the object embedded in the tyre and then scrape away the gel lining to expose the bare rubber. It is then possible to perform the repair which is carried out to the BSAU159 standard. After repairing the tyre, the gel is then scraped back over the area to ensure it’s not lost its self sealing capabilities.
So should you find that you have a puncture in a Contiseal tyre, don't despair, call Hometyre as we may be able to help when others refuse to.
The photo shows how the gel has been scraped away and a plug patch has been inserted. The gel is then pulled back over the patch to complete the job.
