Slow Puncture?

We have all been there...Clipped a kerb...Hit a piece of debris...The classic Pothole. But what are the signs you need to look out for to reduce the risk of further damage? Due to many vehicles now being fitted with Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS) slow punctures are pretty straight forward to locate and can be easily identified via the onboard display. What about cars running non-TPMS...Well signals such as the vehicle pulling to the side or the steering becoming heavy indicate a slow puncture but at the end of the day checking the tyres regularly for Screws or Nails in the tread doesn't hurt as well.

Run Flat Tyre Repairs

While there is no outlined guidance from tyre manufacturers in terms of the safety of repairing Run Flat tyres (tyres denoted RFT, RSC, ROF, SSR, ZP etc), here at Hometyre we will not carry out puncture repairs on Run Flat tyres.

Due to the lack of guidance and correlation between tyre manufacturers on run flat repairs there is a bit of grey area on the impact a tyre repair can have on the performance and safety of these tyres. Due to the reinforced design of these tyres areas such as secondary damage can be hard to locate

Continental Conti-Seal Repairs

How does it work?

Conti Seal technology allows the vehicle to keep running without losing air pressure even after the tyre has been punctured by an external object.

If a nail or other foreign object punctures the tire, the sealant layer closes the hole (up to 6mm in diameter) to prevent the air from escaping, and the tire stays inflated.

To perform the repair of a tyre with Seal Inside technology, it is necessary to remove the layer of sealant in the puncture area within the tyre until you reach the impermeable butyl layer. Continental Conti-Seal tyres, provided the above criteria is met, can be repaired on site by Hometyre technicians.
