Shredded Tyre Replacement - Pothole Damage in Bristol | Mobile Pothole Damaged Tyre Replacement at Home or Work
Potholes are an annoyance; we all know that. But why are
there so many on the roads this year?
If you’ve been paying attention to the weather over the last few months we had all sorts. From sub -10°C days to some days where the sun is shining and it’s been above 10°C. Then, in between, we’ve had spells of heavy rain. Combining this with our aging road infrastructure, it’s a recipe for disaster.
As a tyre hits a pothole, the sharp edge often causes a rupture in the sidewall of the tyre. This can either be an instant flat at the side of the road or present itself as a bubble in the side of the tyre. Either way, it’s best to pull up to a safe location and await assistance! As well as a tyre issue, potholes can also cause buckled or cracked rims and in some cases can even damage the suspension of the vehicle. Again, if you’ve hit a pothole it’s always best to have someone check all the suspension components and alignment just in case.
This client recently called us to book in a tyre change as soon as possible as they were stranded in someone’s drive. Being on the outskirts of Bristol on a main road, there aren’t many tyre places to pull into so this left him stranded needing a new tyre. As we’re a mobile service, we soon booked him in and headed out to get him mobile again!
Upon arrival to the customer, we found that the tyre had completely come off the rim after hitting a large pothole. With the replacement Goodyears on the van, we
soon jacked the vehicle up, removed the wheels and placed them in the van for inspection.
After a visual inspection we removed the tyre and inspected the wheel. As
mentioned above, hitting potholes can cause damage to the wheel so this needs
to be thoroughly inspected before the new tyre is installed.
With the new tyre installed, the tyre is inflated to the correct pressure and then balanced. Balancing is always carried out after a tyre installation.
