How to make your tyres last longer.
Have you ever thought about the tyres on your car? If not, you're not alone!
As many people are purchasing cars through PCP, BCP and HP, by the time these cars are sent back to the finance company, usually they are only just coming up to needing a tyre change. So, if you're not checking your tyres, don't worry as you're not alone! But, it doesn't hurt to double check as you could be close to the limit or even beyond! Many people have been caught out by this before, thinking that as the car is going back soon they can get away with it. But once the finance company performs its final inspection, most, if not all, will charge you if the tyres are worn down or even if they are of a different quality/brand to what was on there from the factory!
Tyres are the only thing that`s keeping your car on the road and there are a few things you can do to make sure you're in the safest possible position;
- Make sure your tyres are correctly inflated, if you are unsure as to how much pressure they require, then check the chart, inside either the passengers or drivers door or inside the fuel filler cap. The pressure will be shown as either (psi) or (bar).
- Ensure there is sufficient tread on your tyres, the minimum is 1.6 mm, but we would always advise to change your tyres when they are closer to 3mm. The quickest way to check the tread, is to insert a 20p coin into the lowest tread area of your tyre, if you can`t see the outer rim of the coin, then your tyre has the minimum of 3mm, if you can see the rim, then your tyre probably needs to be replaced.
- Check the sidewall of the tyre, for cuts or bulges and cracking. If you notice any of these then the tyre may need to be checked by a professional from Hometyre!
- Checking your tyres at least once every two months will help your tyres last longer, save you on fuel, and keep you safer!
