Hometyre Supports the Midland Air Ambulance Charity

With over 60% of its annual sorties undertaken in reaction to road traffic incidents, the West Midlands Air Ambulance service saves motorists lives daily.
With the winter months now upon us, the numbers of serious collisions will rise once again. Poor driving conditions including fog, cold, wet, snow and ice catch us all out - for some it can be near fatal. It is a well documented fact that the first hour following any serious trauma is the most vital and that immediate medical response within this time is often the difference between life and death.

It costs over £6.2m per annum to provide urgent air support across the West Midlands. This is raised purely through charitable donations and the activities of the fund raising team.

Fund manager Maris Jones covers tens of thousands of road miles every year raising awareness of the charity and working with organisations and businesses to promote much needed fund raising events and opportunities across the region.

Recognising the link between the risks of motoring throughout the winter months and the need to continue raising money, we've donated, supplied and fitted a complete set of new winter tyres to Maria's fund raising vehicle.

Maria commented: "I travel on some pretty precarious roads throughout the winter and often hope I am not going to require our own services! The cold weather tyres fitted to my car really do provide a completely different level of grip, braking and overall reassurance. Remaining mobile is a must for me and the charity. The kind donation and support from Hometyre will give me protection on the roads while giving me the benefit of talking tyre safety at many of the events I attend - something very apt!"

Unlike summer tyres which harden and become less effective as the temperature drops, cold weather tyres maintain grip throughout. In the UK it is becoming common practice amongst many motorists to swap tyres during November through to April.
