How to check if your tyres are legal

One of the easiest ways to do this is the 20p test, as shown below...

Simply insert a 20p coin into the lowest tread depth around the circumference of your tyres, if the outer rim of the coin isn't visible then your tyre is safe and road legal! If you can see the rim it means the tread depth of your tyres is less than 3mm and should be checked. If you are worried your tyres are dangerous or may be close to the legal limit, give us a call and we can come out to check them for you!

Why are my tyres wearing unevenly?

If your tyres are wearing unevenly one of the most likely causes is wheel alignment. If your wheels are not properly aligned and your tyres do wear heavier on one side, it can seriously reduce the mileage you get out of them, which will cost you more in the long run. Our mobile tyre fitting vans can do on-site laser wheel alignment at your home, work or any address of your choice!

There could be more to the reason behind uneven tyre wear, another cause is incorrect tyre pressures. If your pressures are too low the tyres could wear more on the outer edges of the tyre whereas if they're over-inflated the middle of the tread tends to wear quicker.
