How Often Should You Check Your Tyres? Mobile Tyre Fitting Oxfordshire

A question we regularly get asked by new customers is "How Often Should I Check My Tyres?" – as a "bog standard" answer we would say a minimum of once per month. The frequency will depend entirely on how much driving you do, the time of year and your driving style!

If you're not using your car very often, you can probably get away with checking your tyres once every 6 weeks. You can perform the very basic safety checks shown below.

Tread Depth – you can use the old fashioned 20p test! Take a 20 pence piece and place in within the grooves of your tyres – as shown below. If you can see the outer rim of the coin, your tyres are below the legal limit and need to be changed ASAP!

Tyre Pressures – if you don't have a gauge at home, most garages will have a pressure gauge you can use to check the air in your tyres! You can find the correct pressures for your vehicle on a plaque either inside the drivers door or the fuel cap.

Tyre Condition – check for any bulges, cuts, gashes etc in your tyres. If your tyre has sever sidewall damage or a bulge, unfortunately this is a definite need for replacement! A bulge in a tyre is a blowout waiting to happen! Once the rubber becomes weakened, each time the tyre heats up from driving, you're at risk of that tyre going "bang".

If you're regularly driving hard and fast, it's a good idea to check your tyres more regularly. You run a higher risk of picking up objects in your tyres, noticing uneven tread wear or potential sidewall damage. If you don't regularly check your tyres and your tread is low or your tyres are damaged, it could result in a nasty incident, as shown below.
