Winter to summer tyre swap to a commercial van in Thetford

Hometyre Norfolk, the mobile tyre fitting service that comes to you, had a call from a customer in Thetford. He was a delivery driver for DPD in Snetterton, which is just down the road. We went out to his home in Thetford to remove his 4 winter tyres and replace them with 4 budget Excelon 235/65/R16 C commercial summer tyres, with wheel balancing, that he already had from the previous summer. As the weather is a lot dryer this time of year, changing back to summer tyres will give better grip to the road and increases fuel economy. 

The vehicle was a Mercedes Sprinter van. Before Hometyre carry out a winter to summer tyre swap, we always check over the tyres to check that they are safe for you and the road. In this case, three of the tyres were in very good condition as they were only 1 year old on the D.O.T code. The fourth however, wasn’t in the best condition, it had had a knock or two (maybe a pothole or a curb).

We swapped this tyre with the spare tyre, a Continental, as it was in a better condition. The other tyre would be fine as a spare, just used as a get out of jail card.

While we were on site, we also checked over the customer’s personal vehicle, this vehicle was a Porsche Boxster. We found that it had not long had a mid range Hankook tyre fitted to the front passenger side. The other three remaining tyres, mid range Maxxis tyres, were getting pretty old and were perishing. We did recommend these should be changed ASAP. We also picked up that the two rear valves were very perished, with large holes in them, and could have fallen off at any time. We changed these valves on site for the customer, to prevent the tyres losing pressure in the future.
