Valve Replacement for a Vauxhall Astra

Earlier this month, a customer called to book herself in for a slow puncture repair. She could hear the air coming out of the tyre but was unable to find where it was coming from.

As a precautionary measure, we took a tyre along just in case it was a crack in the sidewall. As the customer did very little mileage, she opted for a budget tyre.

We arrived at the customer's location and did a pre-inspection of all the tyres. Listening to the near side front we found that it was coming from the rubber valve itself! However, the pre-inspection revealed that the same tyre with the valve issue was running perilously low on tread. The customer was informed and she chose to change it there and then.

With the tyre up on the bench we inspected the valve only to find the it must have been the age of the car, over 12 years old! With this age, the rubber starts to deteriorate and cause cracking. A old tyre was taken off and the new tyre installed along side the new valve.

With the wheel fully assembled, we gave it a quick scrub and placed it back on the car.
