Tyre fitting to your door in Diss

Hometyre Norfolk, the mobile tyre fitting service that comes to you, went out to a customer's home in Diss.

When visiting the customer, we removed two premium Continental tyres, which were perished, 9 years old and very worn. Alongside wear, age is one of the most common reasons a tyre needs replacing, all of these issues were flagged in the customer's recent MOT. The Kia Picanto's worn and ageing tyres were replaced with two mid-range Nexen tyres (155/70 R13).

Alongside replacing the aged tyres, we also carried out a front to rear wheel swap, a service we offer which includes wheel balancing. As the front tyres are compressed by the weight of the engine (resulting in more grip), the rear tyres need all the help with grip they can get. Changing these tyres around increased the grip to the rear of the vehicle as these tyres are well above the minimum tread wear depth.

Whilst on site, we were also to carry out work on a second vehicle, a Vauxhall Astra. Both tyres were below the advised 3mm depth and were at the 1.6mm legal tread limit. These were replaced them with two new 195/65 R15 Event budget tyres as the customers annual mileage was low, a premium brand would not make sense.

If you are unsure of the age of your tyre, you are able to check this information on the sidewall. To find this information simply look for a 4 digit code usually inside a circle, this will be in a format such as 0814, this indicates the week and year the tyre was constructed. The 08 would represent the week of the year and the 14 represents the year (2014), therefore this tyre would have been made during the 8^th week of 2014.

A more visual way of seeing if the tyre is becoming too old are signs of cracking in the tread or sidewall. It is recommended that tyres are changed every 5 to 7 years.
