Runflat in Swaffham

We received a call from a customer in Swaffham to fit a premium Dunlop Sportmaxx GT Runflat tyre to a BMW 5 Series.

In this case, the tyre in question was completely worn in the inside, exposing the wire all the way around. This is quite common with runflat as they have reinforced sidewalls, there are able to run flat if a nail punctures the tyre. You will find the sides of the tyre will wear before the centre, as they are heavy.

If you are replacing a runflat tyre it is recommended that you do so in a pair on the same axle, unless there is less than 3mm difference in tread. You cannot have more than a 3mm difference in tread on the same axle, as they are big and heavy tyres, they would be travelling at different speeds on the same axle, which could cause damage to the axle.

This was the case for this customer, the tread was a lot lower then the tyre we fitted. We recommend the the other tyre in the pair be changed ASAP.

Hopefully he will take on board our advice and change his other tyre to save money in the long-run!
