Caravan and Motorhome Tyre Date Codes in Bury St. Edmunds | Hometyre Mobile Caravan Tyre Replacement
Caravans nowadays are becoming more and more popular. But, with this, the risk of something happening with the tyre also increases. Whether it be debris on the roads, a pothole or age-related perishing, you can only prevent so much. One of the best ways to prepare your caravan or motorhome is the check the tyres. As these are they only point of contact with the road, if something happens to them, you're a little jammed.
One of the other most important factors when checking your tyres is the date code, often referred to as the DOT code. The caravan club's recommendation is that this code must not exceed five years old. But how can you find out how old your tyres are?
On the side of the tyre you will find a four digit code in a rounded oblong (see image below) the first two numbers represent the week and the second two numbers are the year. For example, if that date was 0122, this would be the first week of 2022! But, on some caravans that haven't been touched in a long while, you may not be able to find these numbers. Tyres manufactured in years between 1990 to 2000 will have three numbers then an arrow. Thus; 395? would be the third week of 1995. Tyres pre 1990 will just have three numbers so makes it even more tricky to find.
As well as the date code, you can check for any signs of perishing in the tread or on the side wall. These will appear as little cracks.
