Swapping Tyres Front to Rear and Two Replacement Goodyear Tyres

With flurry's of snow starting to hit our roads, low tread tyres are becoming more and more obvious. Pulling away then suddenly a loss of grip? There's a good chance that the tyres are low on tread. After a brief encounter with a cold flurry and a loss of grip, this customer gave us a quick call to book in for both the front tyres to be replaced on his Kia Stinger.

Before the tyres were swapped over, we inspected all four tyres for any signs of unusual wear or possible damage. During the inspection, we did find multiple cuts to the side wall on the near side front tyre. As we were replacing the front tyres, it was not too much of an issue. However, if the customer had not noticed this, a prolonged period of driving with a damaged side wall could result in a bulge on the wall or at worst, a blown tyre. Checking your tyres periodically (every fortnight for example) is a great way to ensure the safety of the vehicle.

Starting the procedure of changing the tyres, we jacked the vehicle up and placed it onto four jack stands. The front wheels were removed and placed onto the work bench in our van. From here, we broke the bead, removed the old tyre and inspected the alloy. During this inspection, we are looking for any corrosion, bends or possible cracks. Bends and cracks are possible from hitting potholes or curbs at speed whilst corrosion on the bead can appear on any vehicle. As this vehicle was only a couple of years old, there were no cracks and currently no corrosion marks. After the inspection, the new Goodyear tyres were installed, the valve core changed over and inflated to the correct setting. Before putting back onto the vehicle, the wheel was re-balanced to ensure minimal vibration at high speed. This process was repeated for the other side.

Due to most vehicles having their weight directly over the front axle, these tyres are pressed to the ground which generates the most grip. However, this results in the rear tyres having less grip as there is less weight pressing down on the tyres. It's always best practice to install the new tyres on the rear of the vehicle as this increases safety and prolongs the tyres life. With this in mind, the customer opted to swap the new tyres onto the rear and vice versa. Once this was completed, the vehicle was lowered to the floor and the nuts torqued to the correct setting.

Whilst Covid-19 still effects the entire country, we are taking multiple precautions to help protect the public. After the jobs are completed, we sanitise all work surfaces including the car keys, locking wheel nut and work benches. For payment, the customer still has the option to pay via chip 'n' pin. The card machine is always sanitised before and after the customer.
