Peugeot 206 Locking Wheel Nut Removals in North London
We recently had a customer call in to book a locking wheel
nut removal appointment as they recently purchased car did not have a key from
the dealership! Sadly this seems to be a common occurrence...
Upon arrival to the customer’s house, we inspected all four tyres (included in the service) for any signs of unusual wear, cracking or punctures. Both front tyres were perfectly fine however, the two rear tyres were starting to become quite old and were perishing on the sidewall. We spoke to the customer who then ordered two new rears tyres to be fitted at the weekend at an appointment time of their choice!
There are two main ways in removing locking wheel nuts if
the nut has not been overtightened, see below;
Invasive: Using a hammer and a brass spike, the aim is
to break the head of the nut off with a high torque application. This method
may permanently damage the locking wheel nuts/bolts and replacements may be
required.
Non-Invasive: A unique brass cover is placed on the
nut and hit multiple times to mould around the shape of the offending installed
device. From here, the nut has a high chance of being removed.
In both circumstances, we can’t offer a 100% guarantee of
successfully removing the nut and will need the customer to sign a disclaimer
before the attempted removal.
The chance of removing the nut is greatly increase if
no one has attempted to remove the nut prior to us arriving. However, if other
tools such as welding, drilling or hammering the nut off have been attempted,
the chance to remove is greatly diminished.
As this customer had a Peugeot 206, the nuts have a unique collar on the stem then detours potential thieves from removing the nuts. On the flip side, this makes removal of the nuts quite a bit more challenging as this collar needs to be shattered off before the brass nut can achieve maximum grip resulting in a high chance of removing them!
