American Imports in London - The Dodge Challenger R/T

Up and down the country, we often come across weird and wonderful vehicles. Despite being one of the largest manufactures in the world, we very rarely come across the Dodge brand. We do however, come across their parent organisation's cars (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) quite often. In this instance, a customer had booked in over the phone to our office for two new rear tyres on their Dodge Charge R/T, a 5.7 V8 high performance sedan from the US of A.

Normally, American import vehicles tend to have odd sizes. For example, this sedan had 275/35R20 on the rear, a Ford F150 Raptor on 315/70R17 or a Chevrolet Camaro on 245/50 R18. Finding these tyres can be a challenge but, normally with a little luck, we can track them down.

This customer's Yokohamas' were tracked down from up north in Edinburgh. Upon arrival to us, we booked the customer in at their preferred time and loaded the tyres on the van. Before installing the new tyres, we provided a free tyre inspection of the vehicle to ensure the alignment was on point and to see the general condition of the tyres.

After locating the jacking points, the vehicle was safely raised into the air and the wheels removed. These were placed on the bench in our van and the valve cores removed to let the air out. To be safe, we stand away from the air rushing out just in case there is a small piece of gravel hidden in the valve. This can cause a bit of a bruise of it hits you in the right spot! Deflated, the bead of the tyre was broken and removed from the wheel. Before installing the new Yokohama tyre, the wheel was inspected for any signs of damage. This could be corrosion or dents. But, due to the nature of the vehicle, this customer took special care of the body work. No issues were found! The new Yokohama V103 was installed, the valve core replaced and inflated to the correct pressure. Before installing back onto the vehicle, the wheel was balanced on our mobile balancing machine.

This swap process was repeated for the other rear tyre before installing back onto the vehicle where the nuts were hand tightened. At this stage, these are only hand tightened to ensure the wheel is located correctly on the hub. In addition, if we were to tightened whilst there was no load on the wheels, they could be torqued incorrectly. To counter this, they are hand tightened in the air and torqued in a star pattern to the correct setting.

Whether it's a supercar, a super-car or an American import, we are able to work on most, if not all brands! Looking for a puncture repair or a set of new tyres, why not give us call on 0333 444 5454 or send an email to info@hometyre.co.uk
