When Should I Change my Tyres?

When Should I Change My Tyres?

You should change your tyres when they are on 3mm of tread. Legally you can go as far as 1.6mm but when they reach this level they are illegal and could cost you £2500 and 3 points on you licence if caught. 1.6mm is not a target. Tyres wear faster when they are low on tread already and the performance is hugely reduced when they drop below 3mm.

You can check you tyres by doing the 20p test, or by asking you local Hometyre expert to conduct a free check.

How Much Should I Spend on New Tyres? How Much Do Tyres Cost?

A huge amount goes into researching, making, testing, shipping, distributing and fitting your new tyres. I always recommend buying the best tyres you can afford. If you want the best, put the tyres your car came with at standard, those tyres were chosen by the manufacture because they best suit the vehicles handling. If you only do very few miles and those miles are on 30mph roads a budget branded tyre may suit you best. Tyres range hugely, different brands, models, sizes etc. They can cost anything between £45 and £450 a tyre! Check out the website for latest prices on your next tyres.

Do I Need New Tyres?

If yours are on 3mm then yes! it is important your tyres are also in good condition, old tyres crack and perish this can happen from as much as 3 years old, any punctures or objects in the tyre, damage to the side of the tyres caused by kurbs and potholes can also require replacing.
