Michelin Original Tyres for the Porsche 911 (992) GT3
New to 2021, the even more powerful Porsche 911 GT3 will be on sale. Similar to the previous model, the GT3 aims to push the 911 to its limits on the road. But, this doesn't mean it's a boring pedestrian car. Quite the contrary! With just over 500bhp and a kerb weight of 1418kg (1435kg with the optional PDK Auto gearbox) the GT3 swiftly makes it under 7 minutes at the Nürburgring Nordschleife and will soon tear your face off if you roll down the window.
As an interesting side fact, the new GT2RS will have 3d printed pistons designed by an AI which took inspiration from mother nature in where any material that is not integral to the construction is removed. Overall, this reduces the weight of the piston and increases oil dispersion (for better cooling) increasing engine performance by up-to 30PS!
But back to the new GT3. With 255/35R20 on the front and 315/30R21 on the rear, the customer will have the option of having Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 from the factory or the option of having the Cup 2 R Connect if they desire to take it to the track. We would highly recommend the second option if you plan on heading to the track!
But what is the Cup 2 R Connect? Tyre manufactures are constantly trying to out tech their competitors with new and innovative products. On Michelins side is the Connect tyres. These tyres have small rubber grommet inside the tyre where a sensor can be mounted which would connect to an on-board computer. Currently only used for track purposes, these sensors can detect the temperature, and pressure inside the tyres and report back to a phone app. If you enter the 'Driving Type' and 'Road Condition' into the app (as well as the car make and model) the app will suggest the optimal tyre pressures to use.

At the moment, most brands are struggling to import into the UK especially with Covid-19 and Brexit. But, by summer, we hope supply for these weird and wonderful tyres to become plentiful.
