It has been announced that all new builds from April 2022 onwards MUST by law be fitted with an EV Charging Point. Electric Vehicles are becoming increasingly popular across the UK and we're finding more and more, both new and repeat, clients coming to us looking for EV specific tyres.

It's not just homes! New-build supermarkets, workplaces and buildings undergoing major renovations will also come under the new law. This decision comes as a further step in the switch to electric vehicles by 2030, when the sale of new petrol and diesel cars will be banned.

Electric car sales in the UK are growing, approximately 10% of all cars sold in 2020 were electric, a huge increase from the figure of 2.5% just 2 years previous. This figure is expected to further grow as we get closer to 2030 when the sale of new petrol and diesel cars will be banned in the country.

Several major car manufacturers, such as Jaguar and Volvo plan to go all electric from 2025 and 2030 and Ford has promised that all vehicles sold in Europe will be electric by 2030.

What is so special about EV specific tyres?

1. They've been specifically tested for the make/model of vehicle they're designed for to enable you to get the maximum battery usage/charge mileage as possible.
2. EV Tyres will commonly be made with a "noise cancelling" element to them due to the quiet nature of an Electric Vehicle, resulting in quieter road noise.
3. Electric Vehicles tend to be heavier than petrol/diesel vehicles, therefore the tyres are made to support that additional weight, meaning they won't wear as quickly as a standard tyre on an Electric Vehicle.
4. With instant torque, increased weight and lower emissions comes an even greater need for minimal rolling resistance, so electric car tyres offer a smoother, more energy-efficient, low-impact ride.
