Mobile Puncture Repair in Hampshire

We recently had a customer call in with a puncture at her workplace. To ensure she was back on the road within the same day, we asked the customer to grab the tyre size and placed one on order just in case.

After booking the lady in, we headed out to her workplace and inspected all tyres before proceeding with the puncture repair. We noted that the near-side rear may need to be changed soon but was not a threat.

The car was jacked up and the wheel removed carefully. With the wheel off the car, we inflated the tyre to the correct pressure. This was then liberally sprayed with soapy water, the affected area then started to bubble. In this instance, it was a small nail in the central three quarters of the tyre. We deflated the tyre, broke the bead and removed it from the rim.

After further investigation, we found the nail on the inside of the tyre and removed it using pliers. The area was then roughed up to create a better surface for the glue to stick to. Before installing the plug, the hole was drilled out to 6mm. Rubber cement was thinly laid onto the area and left to cure for one minute. This causes the cement to become tacky which is better for the plug to seal against. The plug is then pulled through the air massaged out (to cause a better seal) and the excess rubber sticking out cut off.

The puncture repair was left to cure for five minutes then the tyre installed back onto the rim. This was then inflated, balanced and further inspected (via the soapy water) to ensure the puncture had been repaired. After the final inspection, the wheel was popped back onto the vehicle, the nuts hand tightened, and the car lowered to the floor. We finally tightened the nuts to the correct torque setting and installed a QC sticker.

Due to Covid 19, we are continually adapting the way we engage with customers out in the field. Usually, we took payments via our mobile card machine. However, we are now calling customers from a safe distance to take the card details over the phone.

The keys and locking wheel nut were then sanitised and handed back to the customer. She was over the moon to get back on the road within the same day! It's always pleasure to help people who are stuck.
