Appears to be TPMS Valve week this week.

Now that your MOT includes your TPMS system it is imperative that you ensure this is in a good condition before your car goes into the garage for its annual MOT. Last week and today I have done over a dozen jobs of which 40 or more percent were for TPMS related issues. The issues have varied from constant reading of low pressure to broken valves and sender units.

The constant low pressure warnings are generally related to a loss of air either from a slow puncture or through a faulty valve and can be relatively quick and simple to repair or replace if a faulty valve. Broken valves and sender units are again easy to remedy but cost that little bit more although that said compared to main dealer prices I know I can replace at a fraction of the cost.

Saturday being a fine example of this when I was called out to a customer to replace initially 1 broken valve stem, however once he had heard my feedback as to best practice and possible actions along with a breakdown of my costs he elected to have all 4 changed, two of them looked a bit suspect anyway so a decision I agreed with.

Once I had completed the valve and stem changes, rebalanced and cleaned the wheels before re-fitting he told me that at the main dealer they wanted over 4 times as much that I had charged and that was for 1 unit alone, the result being that at the time he didn't feel he wanted to pay that price so he left. Great news for me as he then went home and onto the internet and found me, I attended, assessed, made my recommendation and subsequently got the job.

So the customer had all 4 valves and stems replaced for less than that of 1 at a main dealer, however imagine if the car was in for its MOT and the garage call to tell you it has failed on wheel valves you would be a little disappointed I would guess, but when they told you it was going to cost 4 or more times what I charge you would probably be fuming. So don't let those TPMS components get you in a tizzy and having to dig deep into your pockets, give Hometyre a call on 0121 514 7176 or mobile friendly 0333 444 5454 to see what we can save you in not only money but time and convenience too.
