Can I mix ‘em? No, you can’t! | Fitting both All Season and Summer Tyres

This is a question we get asked quite regularly by our customers, especially at this time of year.

Some people have looked into All Season tyres, decided they want the benefits of having the same tyres on all year round with both summer and winter capabilities. The only issue is, only a pair of their tyres are worn down enough to need replacing! They don't want to waste adequate tread and money replacing tyres earlier than necessary.

Although replacing your tyres prematurely may be frustrating, the benefits of handling, control and stability of having All Season tyres fitted to all 4 corners more than outweighs the irritation of taking off your summer tyres. You don't have to dispose of them either, if you store them correctly you can refit them at a later date or potentially keep them for an emergency!

If you're looking to only replace them as a pair for cost efficiency, it's not a great idea! You won't get the full benefits of an All Season tyre if you've not got them fitted as a full set.

In theory if you have a FWD vehicle and you have two winter or all season tyres fitted to your front axle, it will help you get moving if you're stuck… the thing people neglect is what happens once you're moving again! The car relies on all 4 tyres once it's in motion, which if you've got a mix of summer/all season/winter tyres, can result in a lack of vehicle control!

The below video shows the result of mixing Winter Tyres and Summer Tyres – but the results of mixing with All Seasons would be broadly similar!
