Brand New Nokian Tyres for a Ford Transit Custom in Crawley

The storms are currently raging away outside and the rivers have burst their banks. Even still, there is a chill in the air and frost on the ground which is causing some drivers to loose grip when pulling away from a junction. This customer recently called in to purchase a new set of winter tyres for his 69 'plate Ford Transit custom. With a likely scenario of not seeing warmer temperatures until around April, this customer decided to purchase a new set of 215/65 R16 Nokian winter tyres as they wanted to get to their customers come snow or shine. Also being a mobile service, this customer needed a date and time slot that suited their schedule as they were constantly on the move repairing boilers and installing heating systems.

With the winter tyres loaded into the back of the van, we attended the client whilst he was also attending a client. Before the installation of the new tyres, we inspected the almost new summer tyres for any damage or unusual signs of wear.

The van was jacked one side at a time and the wheels removed. These were then installed onto the turntable in the van, the bead broken and the tyre tyre removed. The new Nokain tyre was then re-installed onto the wheel using some tyre lubricant and a breaker bar as they are inherently a more solid tyre (due to the compounds used, summer tyres are normally easier to work with). With the tyre installed, we placed the wheel onto our balancing machine. Fortunately, being such a new alloy with hardly any miles clocked, only a singular 10g weight was needed to correct the balancing. The balanced wheel was then placed back onto the van and torqued to the correct specification (as per the manual). The process was then repeated for all four wheels with the whole swap over only taking an hour.

As per the customer's request, the summer tyres were placed in the back of the van as, come summer, the customer wanted to swap them over to optimum performance.
