Porsche Pirelli Tyre Replacement in Edinburgh | Hometyre Mobile Performance Car Tyre Changing
With every new generation of Porsche, power, grip and comfort are at the forefront of the engineers’ minds. Whilst adapting the suspension, Porsche worked with several tyre manufacturers to ensure that their tyres can meet their specific requirements in the above three categories. Tyres that have been approved by Porsche for use on their vehicles are labelled N0 through to N7 as well as NA0 through to NA2 (at the moment) as well as a number of other N- ratings, of which you can find out more here!
Having worn the tyres down at a recent track event and
before handing the car back to the lease company, the customer in Rosewell needed
to change all four! Despite the miserable downpours and hurtling gale, the mood
was high as I headed out to the customer’s heated garage. Upon arrival, all the
wheels and tyres we checked to assess the wear and tear.
Despite being one of the higher performing Porsches, this model had standard bolts compared to the single spindle style found on the GT3 RS and the Cayman GTS models. The single spindle nuts are designed for track use; Like F1 vehicles, a technician using the correct tool can quickly remove the wheel and replace with a new wheel and tyre within a few seconds. But, in the real world it take a bit long and some specialist tools such as a giant torque wrench. Usually, passenger cars are torqued to about 120 nm. However, the single spindle Porsche nut is often torqued to about 650nm! You wouldn’t want one of those wheels to come careering off at high speed on a track.
With the new tyres installed and the rain continuing to pour
down, I took payment from the customer on the mobile card machine and headed
out into the wide world!
