Replacement Perishing Tyres for a Lotus Esprit in Blackburn | Hometyre Classic Car Tyre Replacements

Despite torrential rain being with us not just last week, we are now hitting record temperatures as the UK braces itself for yet another heat wave with some places hitting the mid-thirties. With the sun out, we are also seeing a big influx in classic cars on the roads.

With some having been restored over the winter months by a local restoration centre in Blackburn, one of the final things to complete the look is a new set of tyres. For some owners, creating the period look is paramount above all whilst for others, performance is key. For this owner of a lovely White Esprit, they opted to keep it classic and went for the Pirelli P1 Cinturato which would have been the original fitment at the time.

As with all modern recreations of classic tyres, the patterns are kept the same to keep the period look but the compounds and internal structure of the tyre are changed completely as new chemicals and bonding methods have been developed in the meantime.

Mentioned above, the Lotus had gone through an extensive restoration over the past two winters and had finally come down to replacing the last component, the tyres. Although they still had plenty of tread, these tyres were the originals installed onto the car in 1988 and had developed age related cracks and perishing marks.
