Mobile Slow Puncture Repair in Blackburn | Hometyre Mobile Puncture Repair Service
During the winter months, having a slow puncture can be the worst as walking to work in the warm summer sun is out the door and hitching a ride nowadays is almost impossible. The car is the lifeblood of the household, and this is most apparent the further north of Preston you go. In the remote areas such as Bleasdale and Whitewell being stuck without a car is never a good thing!
This customer got in contact to book in a puncture that had
been going down over the last couple of weeks. This is something we’d class as
a slow puncture and is often down to a small hidden nail somewhere in the tyre
or could be something to do with the valve holding the pressure in or the bead
of the tyre – often which starts to corrode after a lengthy period of time.
I arrived on site and immediately noticed which was down! Before attending to this tyre, the others were checked for any damage, foreign objects penetrating the tyre and how they were wearing. As the vehicle was relatively new, all four tyres were in pretty good nick but the flat one could be seen with a small nail in the centre of the tread. After the inspection of the other tyres, the offending tyre’s
valve was removed, deflated and the bead broken to remove the tyre ready for
the repair. The nail was carefully removed, and the hole left behind drilled
out to 6mm so that our puncture plug could be snug. Before pulling the plug
through, the area around the hole was roughed up so the plug had an even larger
surface area to adhere to. Rubber cement was thinly applied to the area and on
the plug itself which was then pulled through tight and left to set for five
minutes. Before installing back onto the vehicle, the tyre was installed back
onto the rim, inflated to the correct working pressure, re-balanced and then
doused in the soapy water to ensure that the puncture repair had done its job.
Happy with the result, the wheel was popped back onto the car where the nuts
could be torqued to the correct setting.
Although, in some areas, Covid-19 is phasing out, we are
still taking precautions to help fight against it. All equipment is wiped down
and sanitised. The same happens with both the card machines after each use and
also the keys/locking wheel nut that is handed back to the customer once the
job has been completed.
