Can You Repair an Electric Car (EV) Tyre? | Hometyre Mobile Electric Car Tyre Repair in Kent
As the electric car market continues to advance leaps and bounds, ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) vehicle manufacturers are starting to catch up with government pledges to produce fully electric vehicles. The most recent addition to the list is Lotus. Come 2023, Lotus's mainstream vehicles will now be fully electric with their niche vehicles still using hybrid or ICE.
Sitting in The Garden of England, Kent is quickly becoming the hub for electric vehicle infrastructure. Unlike typical combustion engine vehicles, EV vehicles are much heavier and need specialist tyres (of which you can find out more about here). From the outside, you probably won't notice the difference unless you're looking at the sidewall for an indication or if you know your tread patterns. The main difference is hidden in the compound of the tyre. Like the normal combustion vehicle tyre, the EV tyre can be repaired in the same way. These repairs are performed under the code; BSAU159.
The simple answer is; if the tyre can safely be repaired, we will certainly do so!
One thing to note about EV tyres is that for some manufactures, they will have a foam lining on the inside to help decrease the noise emitted by the tyre. In combination with smaller sipes, the difference between a silent and a normal tyre is quite noticeable! Especially when driving a silent car, the tyres are considered the noisiest part!
