This week has seen the value of having Tyron Bands fitted into the wheels of your caravan or motorhome. The bands stop the tyre coming off the rim in the event of a blowout. Think about watching F1 racing, the car gets a puncture and on its way back to the pits the tyre eventually works its way off the rim. Now with a caravan in tow, especially at motorway speeds, when the tyre blows the caravan becomes instantly unstable, weaving and swaying and could flip over. We've all seen pictures of upturned cars and caravans on the road upside down, wrecked. 

This tyre was on a Bailey Ranger caravan that was travelling on the M6 to Keswick. Although the tyre is destroyed, the Tyron Band fitted inside kept it on the rim and the driver was able to slow down and pull onto the hard shoulder whilst keeping the caravan stable and under control. Upon inspection while fitting two new tyres it was discovered they were about 18 years old so must have been fitted second-hand.
