Front to Rear Swap and 2 New Tyres in Keswick

Hometyre Cumbria went out to a customer in Keswick who had been referred to us by a family member and wanted 2 new tyres fitting to their Hyundai IX35, the size was 215/70R16 and they wanted 2 budgets.

Upon inspection of all tyres on the vehicle we found that two of the tyres were very close to the legal tread depth of 1.6mm in an even band around the central ¾ of the tread and definitely needed replacing. There are many risks of running on tyres with low tread, one of which is aquaplaning, at this time of year we're busy getting hit with April showers and the last thing you want is for your tyres to not be able to grip effectively to the road surface. If your tread is low the grooves are not able to disperse water as well as they could if they were newer which results in an almost 'cling film' like effect and the car ends up skimming over the layer of water on the road surface.

We fitted the two new tyres to the rear, it is best to fit new tyres to the rear because the front of the vehicle has the steering capabilities giving you more control over it, the engine is also at the front so the weight is there as well as the majority of the braking capability. The rear will need the best grip it can get which will be primarily provided by the tyres.

We moved the two best tyres to the front axle, balanced all the wheels, refitted them to the vehicle, gave them a good clean and the customer was away!
