Caravan Tyres and TYRON Bands in Cumbria

Caravan Season is upon us in the Lake District!

Hometyre Cumbria was called out to a new customer in Workington who had been recommended to us by a fellow caravaner who had recently had his tyres changed with us.

After a chat with a member of our friendly team in the office he had arranged to have 2 new GT Kargo Maxx ST6000 tyres fitted to his Caravan at the campsite where he stored it.

This particular customer had done his research and asked us to let him know the DOT code of the tyres, this is very important to dedicated caravan owners as the most common reason for needing to change their tyres is due to age.

We try to ensure the tyre was manufactured within 6 months of fitting it to the vehicle, the reason for this is because you get around 5-7 years of life out of a tyre from the manufacture date, so if you fit tyres with a DOT code showing manufacture in 2016/2017, you may already have lost 2 years of life from your tyres!

How do I know how old my tyres are?

You can tell this by the DOT code, or date stamp, which indicates the date of manufacture. It will be in a format such as [5018], which means that particular tyre will have been manufactured in the 50^th week of 2018, indicating it is perfectly fine to fit to a caravan at the start of 2019.

TYRON Bands in Cumbria

As well as fitting a new pair of tyres to the caravan and to the spare tyre we fitted TYRON Bands to the wheels. The clue is in the name with TYRON Bands, they keep the TYRE-ON in the event of a blowout. This is a common safety precaution for caravan and motorhome owners as it can prevent a bad accident if you incur a puncture/blow out whilst driving.
