When checking the tyre for signs of deterioration, always look along the sidewall and inside the tread for cracks. In addition to age, if the caravan has been stationary for a period of time, the tyres might develop flat spots.

This is caused when all the weight of the caravan has been focused on one area. If you are driving with a flat spot, you will start to feel an excess in vibration. After a few miles, this will smooth out as the tyre has warmed up and moulded back to its original shape. If the flat spot is excessive, such as the size of the palm of your hand, check the pressure of your tyre. If the pressure is where it should be, consider changing the tyre.

If a tyre blows on a motorway, the tyre will stay on the alloy rim for a short while but will quickly shimmy its way off. This can become extremely dangerous as the driver is unable to feel what is happening, this could lead to the caravan becoming unstable or even turning over.
