Resetting Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) on a Nissan Qashqai | Hometyre Mobile TPMS Service
Have you been driving along and seen this flash up on the screen? You may have a puncture!
But that's a worst-case situation. If it continually flashes on and off it may be an error in the system or could even be a dead battery inside the sensor.
But what is this symbol? Most newer Nissan Qashqai's have a system that allows it to continually monitor the tyre pressure; TPMS (Tyre Pressure Monitoring System) and can come in two different forms; indirect and direct;
'Direct' systems use sensors attached to the valve, this monitors the air pressure inside of the tyre and relays this back to the dashboard or infotainment system in the vehicle.
'Indirect' systems monitor all tyres but will only warn you if one of the tyres is going down. It doesn't show live pressures. This is because, through a series of complex calculations, it measures the rolling radius of the tyre through the ABS system.
For older Nissan Qashqais up to 2016 with the indirect system, you can follow these steps;
1. Ensure that vehicle is stopped in a safe location and check the current pressures. If one is quite low, do not move the vehicle! You've probably encountered a puncture!
2. However, if the pressures are constant turn the ignition key to 'ON' without starting the engine. (If you have a smart key, press the 'Start' button twice.
3. Enter the settings menu on the dashboard by using the /\ and \/ arrows on the steering wheel.
4. Scroll to MAINTENANCE and press enter.
5. Scroll to TYRE PRESSURE
6. Select CALIBRATE
7. Start the calibration process!
For newer generations Qashqais (2016 onwards) with the direct system, you can follow these steps!;
1. Ensure that vehicle is stopped in a safe location and check the current pressures. If one is quite low, do not move the vehicle! You've probably encountered a puncture!
2. Turn the ignition key to the on position without starting the vehicle (the accessories setting)
3. Scroll through the infotainment display using the arrow keys <> to select SETTINGS
4. Scroll to MAINTENANCE and press enter.
5. Scroll to TYRE PRESSURE
6. Select CALIBRATE
7. Start the calibration process!
