Bridgestone tyre fitted to a Nissan Qashqai in Histon and a Hankook runflat tyre fitted to a Mini Cooper in Cambridge. We visited a customer last week who works in Histon and fitted a new Bridgestone D Sport tyre size 215/65/R16 to a Nissan Qashqai due to a nail embedded on the shoulder of a tyre. Before leaving we carried out a thorough vehicle tyre check and found another tyre showing signs of age. Our customer decided to call us back today to replace the tyre as he is taking a summer break next week all the tyres on the vehicle need to be in good order. We then visited a new customer who works in the centre of Cambridge as a runflat tyre on a Mini Cooper had lost air pressure. We found a screw embedded in the tyre and fitted a new Hankook runflat tyre size 205/45/R17 and before leaving we inflated the remaining tyres to the correct pressure and reminded our customer to check air pressure on a regular basis.
Continental tyres fitted to a Peugeot 207 in Willingham. The first job of the day was to visit a new customer who works in Willingham and she called us as she did not have the time to drive to Cambridge to have two new tyres fitted to her Peugeot 207. We arrived at 9am as agreed with two new Continental tyres size 195/55/R16 to replace the existing front tyres. Before we commenced working on the vehicle we checked the condition of the rear tyres and found one tyre to be relatively new but the other tyre to be four years old. We explained to our customer that the majority of punctures occur on the rear tyres as the front tyres push debris from the road in the direction of the rear tyres so by fitting new tyres to the rear axle you minimize the chances of nails and screws being embedded in a tyre.In the process of moving the rear tyres we noticed a rusty nail in the centre of the older tyre and therefore we were able to perform a puncture repair much to the relief of our customer.

Pirelli Scorpion tyre fitted to a Range Rover then off to investigate tyres on a Ford Ka.Our first job of the day was to visit a regular customer and fit a new Pirelli Scorpion tyre size 255/55/R19 to a Range Rover near Cambridge. We were then asked to visit a new customer in Girton to investigate a screw in a rear tyre on a Ford Ka. On arrival we found a small screw embedded near the shoulder of one tyre and the Dot code on the other rear tyre told us that the tyre was constructed in 2006 so we are returning to replace both tyres. We then headed back to Longstanton to complete a free tyre check service on a Citroen Picasso and we will be fitting a new Nexen tyre to the vehicle tomorrow. We are now heading to Willingham to fit two new Dunlop tyres to a Toyota Yaris.
The week began by fitting a Bridgestone tyre in Newmarket and assisting a plumber in Melbourn. We had a call from a young mum in Newmarket who had hit a kerb and damaged a tyre on a Citroen C4. A busy week fitting new tyres to Caravans,Motorhomes and private hire vehicles. While it has been half term week where many of our customers are away enjoying the break we have still been busy fitting new tyres to caravans and motorhomes. We visited a retired couple in Cambridge who were preparing their caravan for the summer but their tyres were over five years old so we fitted two new tyres while removing and refitting the Tyron bands that had been fitted to the wheels a few years ago and the whole process took less than an hour to complete. We then visited a customer who was preparing a Fiat Ducato Motorhome for a trip through Europe so we arrived at the agreed time to fit a Continental Vanco Camper tyre size 215/70/R15.Next it was back to Longstanton to fit a complete set of new tyres to a private hire car and two new Nexen tyres to an Audi Q5.The front tyres needed replacing but we informed our customer that it was advisable to put the new tyres to the rear and bring the existing rear tyres to the front axle and during the process we discovered two nails embedded in the nearside rear tyre and returned the following morning with the third new tyre. Our customer was extremely grateful as the vehicle had no spare tyre and at some time the tyre would have let them down.
An ironic start to the week as we remove winter tyres in wintry conditions. We are still busy removing winter tyres and refitting summer tyres but it was rather ironic at the beginning of the week as the weather conditions were similar if not worse than when we are called to fit winter tyres. The first job of the week was to fit a complete set of Goodyear Efficient Grip tyres size 235/65/R17 to a Land Rover near Ely.Then it was back to Cambridge to fit two new tyres to a caravan as the existing tyres were over five years old.We were called to fit three new Kumho tyres to a VW Golf while the driver was attending a business meeting in Cambridge. We visited a new customer in Cambridge who had decided to sweep the cobwebs off his caravan and use it on a more regular basis. He needed the tyres replaced but he was slightly concerned as it had Tyron bands fitted to the wheels and the last time he had tyres replaced he lost the caravan for a whole day.We arrived at his home at the time agreed and removed the Tyron bands, fitted the new tyres while refitting the bands within the hour. Our customer was suitably impressed.
Bridgestone tyres fitted to an Audi Q5 and Firestone tyres fitted to a BMW and Toyota Yaris. We were called by a customer in Histon as he noticed that both front tyres on a courtesy vehicle had very little tread. On arrival we found both tyres to be illegal and to compound the problem the hire company had removed the locking wheel nut adaptor from the vehicle. We strongly recommend that before driving away in a hire vehicle that you check the condition of all the tyres and also check that you have all the equipment on the vehicle to remove a wheel in the event of a puncture. We then headed to Cambridge Science Park to fit a new Firestone tyre to a Toyota Yaris as a rear tyre had been damaged and during our vehicle inspection we informed our customer that both front tyres were getting low on tread so we are returning on Monday to fit two more Firestone tyres. Next it was a visit to Newmarket as a regular customer had ordered two new Firestone tyres for a BMW 1 series.Today we have visited another regular customer in Cambridge and fitted two new Bridgestone tyres size 255/45/R20 to an Audi Q5.The date stamp on the sidewall of the tyres confirmed that all the tyres were the original fitment and we have advised the customer that the remaining two tyres will need replacing in the near future due to age.
New Nexen tyres fitted to a Land Rover Freelander and a Pirelli tyre fitted to a Vauxhall AstraLast week we visited a retired couple near Royston as they needed their caravan tyres replaced as the existing tyres were over five years old and showing signs of age. While we were there they asked as to look at the tyres on a Freelander that tows the caravan. The couple had recently replaced a tyre due to a puncture and we confirmed that the other three tyres were low on tread depth. We returned today and fitted three new Nexen tyres size 235/65/R17 and the couple can now enjoy their summer break knowing that both the caravan and Freelander have good tyres fitted. We then headed back to Longstanton to fit two new tyres to a private hire car that is having an Mot test this afternoon. We have just taken delivery of a Pirelli P Zero tyre size 245/35/R20 which we are fitting to a Vauxhall Astra this afternoon.
We are now busy fitting new tyres to caravans and mobile homes. This is the pleasant time of year when we are fitting new tyres to caravans and mobile homes and listening to our customers plans for the spring and summer. Some are taking their units to reasonably local sites and others are venturing to all parts of Europe but all our customers need to feel safe on their journeys and good tyres are essential for a safer journey. We visited a customer last week who called us five years ago to fit new tyres and Tyron bands to their caravan and as it is recommended by the manufacturers that tyres should be replaced after five years they called us to book an appointment to fit new tyres and refit the Tyron bands. Some of our new customers were unsure on how Tyron bands worked so we explained that in the event of a blow out the bands would assist in keeping the unit under control.
A busy few days fitting new tyres so our customers are safe on their Easter journey. Many of our regular customers are away for the Easter break so we have been busy this week checking and fitting new tyres so they and we are confident that their vehicles are safe for the journey. A few days ago we were asked to check the general condition of the tyres on a Ford Mondeo for a young family as they were travelling to Cumbria to visit friends over the Easter holidays. We informed the customer that while the tyres were legal all the tyres had less than 2.5mm tread depth so they asked us to return the following day to fit a full set of Dunlop tyres size 205/55/R16 91W so they felt safe on their journey. We were called by a customer living in Longstanton who was losing air from a rear tyre on a Land Rover Discovery and as both rear tyres were showing signs of age our customer asked us to fit two new General Grabber tyres. Today we have fitted two new Nexen tyres to a Volvo that is used as a private hire car and our vehicle inspection report has highlighted that the remaining two tyres on the vehicle will need changing in the near future and our customer will be calling us back shortly.
Goodyear tyre fitted to a Volvo,Hankook tyre fitted to a Range Rover and Bridgestone tyres fitted to a Ford Transit. As the week draws to an end it is good to reflect on the jobs we have done and the customers we have helped in a crisis. The first job of the week was to visit a regular customer who had picked up a small screw on a rear tyre on a Volvo V80.Unfortunately the screw was embedded on the shoulder of the tyre so we fitted a new Goodyear Excellence tyre to the vehicle. The following day we were called by another Volvo owner who required two new tyres for his vehicle,so we arrived at his house at a time convenient to him and fitted the new tyres.Next it was off to Saffron Walden as a customer had hit a kerb and had damaged a tyre on a Range Rover so we fitted a new Hankook tyre. We took a call this morning from a Landscape gardener who was working in Lonstanton and he asked if we would replace two rear tyres on his Ford Transit van while he was working at a customers house. We arrived at the agreed time and fitted two new Bridgestone tyres saving him time and money.
Winter tyres removed from a VW Touran and a Jaguar X TypeWe are now getting calls from our customers who had winter tyres fitted during the winter months and now require their summer tyres fitted. When removing tyres each season we always give our customers feedback on the tread depth and general condition of the tyres we are taking off so that they are aware of the lifespan of the tyres for future reference.Last autumn when removing summer tyres from a VW Touran we informed the customer that the front tyres were showing less than 3mm tread depth so when they booked an appointment last week for removal of the winter tyres they asked us to bring two new Michelin Primacy tyres size 205/55/R16 as replacements for the worn tyres. We had a similar situation when removing summer tyres from a Jaguar X type as we spotted a nail embedded in a rear tyre and due to the tyre already having a puncture repair patch fitted we advised the customer that it would be advisable to order a new tyre. We arrived yesterday at the time agreed with a new Continental Contact 5 tyre and our customer now has a good set of summer tyres fitted to the vehicle.
Fitting new tyres to caravans this week some with Tyron bands already fitted. As the weather is improving we are getting calls from caravan owners who need new tyres fitted for the spring and summer and we are also having discussions concerning the benefits of having Tyron bands fitted.Yesterday we visited a customer living near Newmarket who had ordered two new tyres for his single axle caravan as the original tyres were six years old and showing signs of age.The wheels had Tyron bands fitted but our customer was unsure on how they worked and asked us to explain. When removing the old tyres we showed him the band sitting in the fitting well of the wheel and explained that while the band is in place the tyre cannot be removed and therefore in the event of a blow out the tyre will not leave the rim.We showed him by using our specialist equipment how the band can be removed and refitted and he is much clearer on the principle of Tyron bands.
Another runflat tyre that had no air inside and customer unaware. We were called by a new customer in Cambridge who noticed a damaged runflat tyre on their Mini Cooper and the tyre pressure indicator on the dashboard was highlighting the fact that the tyre had lost air pressure. We arrived at their office and fitted a new Hankook runflat tyre to the offside rear.During our vehicle inspection we discovered that the two front tyres were only a year old and holding air pressure but the nearside rear tyre was eight years old and had no air inside the tyre. We explained to the customer that if a tyre loses pressure over a period of time the indicator on the dashboard might not highlight the issue. We returned very quickly and fitted another tyre to the vehicle and the customer thanked us for our attention to detail. We often find runflat tyres with low air pressure and the customer is unaware so we recommend a regular check to highlight any issues.
