As we were fitting the new tyre we had a call from another customer living in Longstanton who was also losing air pressure in a rear tyre but fortunately the screw was embedded in the centre of the tyre so we were able to repair the tyre.

We arrived at the agreed time and within an hour our customer had new tyres fitted. Whilst we were fitting the new tyres we had a call from a regular customer living in Bottisham who had damaged a tyre on a Mazda 6 so we collected a new Falken tyre size 205/55/R16 from a local supplier and again within the hour of the call our customer was back on the road. New Nexen tyres fitted to a Honda Jazz,an Audi A4 and a caravan.
The day started with a visit to a new customer who had noticed our van the previous week in Cambourne.
The customer required the offside front tyre on a Honda Jazz replacing so we arrived at the agreed time and fitted a new Nexen tyre size 185/55/R15 to the vehicle and explained it was best practice to move the existing rear wheel to the front axle and fit the new tyre to the rear so reducing the chances of a puncture.
Next it was off to Cambridge to fit new Nexen Roadian tyres size 175/65/R14 to a single axle caravan and during our conversation with the customer he stated that the main reason for changing the tyres was he was taking the unit to southern France during the summer and was fearful of a blowout on the journey. While we fitted the new tyre we were able to show and explain to our customer the benefits of fitting Tyron Bands to a wheel to aid better control of the unit in the event of a puncture.
We then headed to Stetchworth as a regular customer had noticed damage to a rear tyre on a Land Rover Defender so we fitted a replacement BF Goodrich tyre size 235/R16 to the vehicle.

On the way home we visited another regular customer living in Swavesey and performed a puncture repair on a Vauxhall Zafira.
It is the time of year when your summer tyres need to be refitted and caravan tyres need to be checked for signs of age.
We are now getting calls from our customers who have winter tyres fitted to their vehicles as spring is nearly with us and the winter tyres we fitted in the autumn need to be removed and summer tyres refitted to all vehicles.
It is also the time of year when caravan tyres need to be checked to make sure that they are in good condition for the summer months and it is recommended they be changed if they are over five years old as there is a chance that cracks could appear on the sidewall of the tyre which will increase the opportunity of a problem arising during your journey.
Many of our customers are requesting us to fit Tyron bands to caravan and motorhome wheels to assist in the event of a blowout as the Tyron bands will help the driver control the vehicle if a tyre does happens to burst.

Nexen tyres fitted to Honda Jazz and a Ford Fiesta in Cottenham and while we were there we have booked a job fitting new Hankook tyres to a caravan next week.
We were called by a regular customer living in Cottenham who required two new tyres for a Ford Fiesta as the existing tyres were wearing on the inside shoulder so we agreed to perform a wheel alignment on the vehicle whilst fitting the new tyres.
Unfortunatly another vehicle at the household had clipped a kerb and a tyre had burst so a replacement tyre was ordered. We arrived at the agreed time and fitted two new Nexen tyres size 195/50/R15 to the Ford Fiesta and also performed a wheel alignment on the vehicle.
The next task was to replace the damaged tyre on a Honda Jazz so we fitted another Nexen tyre size 175/65/R15 to the vehicle and as we were fitting the new tyre a gentleman living opposite our customer asked if we would look at his caravan tyres as they were showing signs of age.

Winter tyres fitted to an Audi A6 last Friday and then a new Pirelli tyre fitted to a Porsche Cayenne stranded in the centre of Cambridge.
We were called by a new customer on Friday and asked if we would fit winter tyres to an Audi A6 in a village near Cambridge, so we arrived at the agreed time and fitted the winter tyres while our customer was able to work from his office.
We then headed to Cambridge city centre as a regular customer had a puncture on his Porsche Cayenne so we collected a Pirelli Rosso tyre size 275/40/R20 from a local tyre supplier and this proved to be a wise decision as on arrival we discovered air escaping from the sidewall of the tyre so the new Pirelli tyre was fitted to the vehicle allowing our customer to get home.
We were then called by an owner of a Kia Sorento in Duxford as a rear tyre on the vehicle had blown and the spare tyre that had fitted was slowly losing air pressure. We arrived and replaced the blown tyre with a new Event tyre size 245/70/R16 and refitted the new tyre and wheel to the vehicle. We discovered that air was escaping from between the wheel rim and the tyre on the spare so we removed the tyre and cleaned the wheel applying a layer of bead seal to the rim when refitting the tyre to solve the air loss issue.

We arrived to fit two new Nexen tyres to a 4X4 for a new customer but the locking wheel nut adaptor was missing.
We were called by a new customer who required two new tyres for a 4X4 vehicle and as the vehicle was doing reasonably low mileage we recommended fitting Nexen tyres to the vehicle.
We arrived at the agreed time to find our customer struggling to locate the locking wheel nut adaptor. We found this very strange as the wheels had only been removed the previous week to have new brake pads fitted but after looking in every possible location in the vehicle it was clear to all that the adaptor had not been returned to the vehicle.
We agreed with our customer that it was best to suspend the job until he had contacted the garage that had removed the wheels earlier. Unfortunately the garage could not find the missing adaptor so after a two hour wait they finally were able to release wheel nuts and supplied our customer with a new set of locking wheel nuts.
We at Hometyre come across this problem on a regular basis so we have a procedure in place during our vehicle inspection report where every technician must record the location of the locking wheel nut adaptor. We recommend that when your vehicle is returned from a garage after having some work done a quick check on the location of the adaptor would help to prevent a similar situation.

During last week we were called by two separate customers who had similar problems with damaged locking wheel nut adaptors therefore causing issues when trying to remove a wheel. Both customers had a puncture on their journey so both went to the vehicle tool kit to access the locking wheel nut adaptor and the wheel brace supplied by the manufacturer but unfortunately the wheel brace supplied was not sturdy enough to release the wheel bolts and in particular the locking nut adaptor kept slipping off. Unfortunately we come across this issue on a regular basis as with every failed attempt to release the locking nut there is a good chance that the adaptor will be damaged. To avoid such issues in the future we recommend you call Hometyre or the various rescue services for assistance.
