Uniroyal Rainsport 2

Protection against aquaplaning: The innovative 3D structure in the base and side of the tread grooves enables rapid water dispersion, ensuring a dry weather drive even in the wet!Shorter braking distance: An even ground pressure distribution is achieved through the use of a curved V-shaped tread rib. This means the maximum amount of rubber is in contact with the road surface, giving shorter braking distances in both the wet and dry.

TRAFFIC JAM A27 WEST BOUND

There has been a lorry fire on the A27 west bound, between Brighton and Hove exits, fire brigade in attendance stay clear if you can.

3 Points on your licence

I am still finding that many of the tyres I remove from cars are way passed the legal limit. I often wonder if drivers realise that if found by the police, there are 3 points for each illegal tyre (So a possible 12 point driving ban if all 4 fail) as well as a fine.

TPMS (Tyre Pressure Monitoring System)

Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systems are a great Idea to ensure that you always have the correct pressure in your tyres, keeping you safe and saving you money. There are several systems on the market and beware some are for the American market which use a different frequency then European sustems and is against the law to use within Europe so it could well be a wasted purchase. To ensure that you get the right system for use in Europe why not give Hometyre a call, we can supply and fit a complient system at your home or place of work at a time convenient for you.

Conti self seal

Have just changed a pair of Conti self seals, these tyres have a 3mm sticky patch inside the wheel which seals the tyre in the event of a puncture, allowing you time to get to a place of saftey, to change the wheel or have the tyre repaired. Its a right mess though, as depending on the type of puncture you can either stick the patch on top of the seal, or you have to scrape it all away.

False economy

Called out to a customer who had hit a kerb badly, damaging his track rod. A garage replace the rod, but did not track the vehicle, they did advise him to get it tracked though. He didn't and his tyres wore right through on the inside edge, causing a blow out. So it actually cost him for two tyres and tracking in the end. Don't forget, having your vehicle correctly tracked improves the handling, improves fuel comsumption and reduces tyre wear.

Over zealous street cleaners!

Changed some tyres in Hove yesterday, took off the wheel trims and placed them under the edge of car As I always do, to make sure I don't stand on them. While I was changing the tyre in the van I noticed a street cleaner passing. Went back out to the car to re-fit the wheel after a couple of minutes to find he had taken the trims!!! Yet he left my jack, torque wrench and the wheel bolts??? Weird or what?

Damage to alloys

Called in a garage and saw their tyre fitter balancing a wheel today, he was hammering clip on weights to alloy wheels which chips the paint causing corrosion of the alloy. With Hometyre, we use stick-on weights on alloys, ensuring they stay in good condition.

Collapsible caravan

Todays job on a caravan was unusual, in that the caravan was a collapsible one. I had to take the wheel arches off, before the wheels could be removed.

Why do I get punctures?

Called out to a lady who had new tyres fitted last week, she was unhapy to find one punctured today, and wondered why she gets so many punctures. I picked up 15 screws and 2 nails on her drive!!!!!!! She had cleaned out her garage and hadn't cleaned up all the stuff she dropped.

Drill found in tyre

Called out to a puncture repair today and found that a 6mm drill had completely penetrated a tyre. Luckily it was repairable, and i had one happy customer.

71% Of Motorists Are Driving On Under-Inflated Tyres

The Bridgestone results show that 71% of motorists are driving on under-inflated tyres. Bridgestone calculates for the environment this means 4.8 million tonnes of additional and unnecessary CO2 emissions annually-the equivalent of 1.8 g/km for every car on the road. The 38,000 tyre safety checks were conducted by Bridgestone at shopping centres and public car parks as part of the company's regular tyre campaign activities.

Don’t Take ‘Potluck’ With Potholes

As local authorities set about repairing the UK’s pothole damaged roads with an extra £100m of government investment, motorists are being urged not to take ‘potluck’ with their wheel alignment. Driving over potholes is a major cause of wheel misalignment, which can reduce vehicle safety as the car can become difficult to control. It can also lead to higher fuel costs and increased tyre wear.
