Old car day part 2

A 1940's Lanchester LD10 in need of two new tyres. The tyres were sorced through the vintage tyre company as they were old cross plys, with inner tubes inserted into each tyre. Interesting job, as it was something out of the ordinary.

Old car day

Called out to sort out the tracking on a 1960's Jaguar Mk II, the customer had changed the running gear, but was not able to set up the tracking. It was an interesting job, with a two areas to adjust the tracking. A central bar that can push the wheels in or out together, plus individual track rods to finly adjust the wheels seperately.

TPMS

Just changed a tyre on a Chrysler fitted with sensors. One of the valve cores had a stripped thread, so it will have to be changed. Fitted a rubber valve to keep the car on the road, till the new sensor arrives.

Bad tyre wear

Uneven tyre wear or your car pulling to one side when braking? These are two possible signs that your tracking may be out. Call us at Hometyre where we can check and adjust your tracking at your home or place of work using the laser alignment equipment on our Mobile service vehicles. The price is similar prices to your local garage, but with the added convenience, that you don't have to drive to a garage and wait around..

MOT Failure

Check your tyres before your MOT, the last thing you need is for a garage to fail your vehicle on its tyres, and then say, we can change them to get it through. You have no chance to shop around, and they will often charge over inflated prices, as they know you are stuck. I was recently called to a customer where the garage wanted to charge him £80 per tyre more than the Hometyre cost. As it was he called us out, and paid for a retest, and saved himself money.

GT Radial tyres

I have just been on a track day testing the GTRadial Champiro 328 tyre on both wet and dry roads in an Arial Atom and a BMW M3. Fantastic grip in the wet and dry, highly recommended.

Horsebox tyres

Called out to another horsebox with old split tyres, they only held air as the customer had fitted them with inner tubes. Not at all safe, yet they regularly ferry around a horse woth £8000 in it. Now fitted with new commercial tyres.

Boat trailer

Have just fitted a set of tyres to a boat trailer today. Original tyres were remolds and were 20 years old.

Motorhome & van tyres

Michelin produces an extensive selection of van tyres catering for the latest generation of vans and motorhomes. These include the updated Agilis range, which when originally launched was the first range of tyres designed specifically for vans.

LGV's & Poor tyre maintenence

In response to the latest VOSA Effectiveness Report, which stated an increasing number of van operators in the UK are at risk of causing an accident due to poor tyre maintenance, Tyre companies are urging van drivers to recognise the importance of tyre safety and ensure the maintenance of their tyres is taken seriously.

Alloy wheel corrosion causing air leaks

Called out to a lady with a flat tyre today, it turned out to be corrosion on the rim. Caused by kerbing the wheel, and the Brighton salty air getting under the alloys paint. It then blisters, allowing air to seep out of the tyre, causing a flat. The solution is to strip the wheel, clean off all the loose paint, and apply a sealer, before refitting the tyre.

TPMS to be part of the MOT from 2012

The latest EU directives have decreed that from 2012, Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS) will form part of the MOT test. The latest commission directive, 2010/48/EU, states that from January 2012, any vehicle originally fitted with TPMS will have to have it fully operable in order to pass the annual MOT test. This will then mean that even one faulty sensor will be enough to score a ‘fail’.

Increased traffic over Easter

Heading to the South coast for the Easter break? Allow additional time to ensure you get there safely. Roads around the south are extreemly busy, and jams are adding to the misery. With this hot weather make sure you bring extra drinks with you for your journey, as you may be stuck on the road for sometime.

Ensure smooth driving over the Easter Holidays

Over this Easter break drivers are being reminded to check their tyre pressures before setting off to avoid any roadside misery and unnecessary additional expense. According to TyreSafe, the UK’s leading tyre safety organisation, drivers failing to ensure that their tyres are properly inflated are much more likely to suffer a serious failure, will suffer from increased tyre wear and will experience higher fuel bills.

Known to be one of the finest wet-weather and most consistent dry handling tyres available, the Proxes range are chosen as original equipment by many car manufacturers. These include manufacturing giants such as Audi, Mazda, Nissan, to the more bespoke sports car manufacturers such as Westfield, Farbio and Invicta. Traffic holdups in Felpham

Felpham Bypass has 4 way lights with downview road causing some delays. But to add to the misery, the gas board are now digging up Felpham Road in the village by St. marys church. No lights so far, but only room for one car to pass, so its causing problems.

Drivers are ignoring tyre pressures

I am regularly finding that many customers I am called out to have under-inflated tyres. I wish that they would understand that they are reducing their braking effect, as well as effecting the vehicles handling and tyre wear.
