Over zealous street cleaners!

Changed some tyres in Hove yesterday, took off the wheel trims and placed them under the edge of car As I always do, to make sure I don't stand on them. While I was changing the tyre in the van I noticed a street cleaner passing. Went back out to the car to re-fit the wheel after a couple of minutes to find he had taken the trims!!! Yet he left my jack, torque wrench and the wheel bolts??? Weird or what?

Damage to alloys

Called in a garage and saw their tyre fitter balancing a wheel today, he was hammering clip on weights to alloy wheels which chips the paint causing corrosion of the alloy. With Hometyre, we use stick-on weights on alloys, ensuring they stay in good condition.

Collapsible caravan

Todays job on a caravan was unusual, in that the caravan was a collapsible one. I had to take the wheel arches off, before the wheels could be removed.

Why do I get punctures?

Called out to a lady who had new tyres fitted last week, she was unhapy to find one punctured today, and wondered why she gets so many punctures. I picked up 15 screws and 2 nails on her drive!!!!!!! She had cleaned out her garage and hadn't cleaned up all the stuff she dropped.

Drill found in tyre

Called out to a puncture repair today and found that a 6mm drill had completely penetrated a tyre. Luckily it was repairable, and i had one happy customer.

71% Of Motorists Are Driving On Under-Inflated Tyres

The Bridgestone results show that 71% of motorists are driving on under-inflated tyres. Bridgestone calculates for the environment this means 4.8 million tonnes of additional and unnecessary CO2 emissions annually-the equivalent of 1.8 g/km for every car on the road. The 38,000 tyre safety checks were conducted by Bridgestone at shopping centres and public car parks as part of the company's regular tyre campaign activities.

Don’t Take ‘Potluck’ With Potholes

As local authorities set about repairing the UK’s pothole damaged roads with an extra £100m of government investment, motorists are being urged not to take ‘potluck’ with their wheel alignment.

Driving over potholes is a major cause of wheel misalignment, which can reduce vehicle safety as the car can become difficult to control. It can also lead to higher fuel costs and increased tyre wear.

Figures from the AA for 2010 put the cost to insurers for pothole related claims at £10.5m and many experts and organisations are predicting the UK’s pothole problem to be worse than ever in 2011 following the harsh winter. There is also the added problem that road maintenance budgets have been cut by up to 20 per cent meaning local authorities face difficult choices on the roads they prioritise for repair.

Van Tyre Abuse On The Rise

It's been acknowledged that an increasing number of van and light commercial vehicle operators across the UK are at risk of causing  tyre related accidents as they are failing to look after the condition of their tyres properly. The latest VOSA effectiveness report shows that "Condition Of Tyres" remains the most frequent prohibition defect at spot checks on light goods vehicles across the country, but worryingly, the incidence rate has increased from 20 percent in 2007/08 and in 2008/09 to just fewer than 26 percent in 2009/10. Do you run a small fleet of vans or cars? Our Hometyre technicians offer regularly monthly fleet tyre inspections and on site replacement and repair at your choice of location.

The perfect solution to improving fuel economy and tyre related defects

A27 lane closure at Lancing

The inside lane of the A27 East bound between Sompting and Lancing has been closed due to gas works, it is causing some additional traffic delays in the rush hour.

Bad tyron band fitting

Called out to change the tyres on a caravan today, that already had Tyron bands installed. Who ever had fitted them previously had made some serious mistakes.... 1. Tyron bands were fitted upside down. 2. Of the 10 plastic 'feet' only 4 were installed. 3. Tyron stickers were missing off of the wheels. Please make sure you use a reputable fitter, who has been trained in the installation of tyron bands, like Hometyre.

Potholes - Hidden dangers

If you have hit a pothole, please take the time to check your tyres visually on the inside wall as well as the outside. I was called to a lady yesterday who's tyres had half an orange sized bumps on the inside walls, meaning these was considerable damage to the tyres wall linings. This is also an MOT failure.

A27 roadworks causing short delays.

Roadworks on the A27 at Arundel and again by the A280 junction (Just part Poling) are both causing 10 minute delays.

Energy Saving Tyres

20% of a cars fuel consumption is due to the tyre.To reduce fuel consumption, the forces opposing the vehicle's movement need to be decreased. Therefore a decrease in tyre rolling resistance leads to a reduction in fuel consumption. Energy saving tyres have low levels of rolling resistance, therefore providing a reduction in fuel consumption and subsequently reducing vehicle CO2 emissions and decreased pollution levels.

Tyre Information

TYRES are the only parts of your car that are in contact with the road. SAFETY in acceleration, braking, steering and cornering all depend on a relatively small area of road contact. It is therefore of PARAMOUNT IMPORTANCE that your CAR TYRES are maintained in GOOD condition at all times and when the time comes to change them, the correct car tyre replacements are fitted.

Save on Fuel Costs

Whether Hometyre change one or two tyres we will check pressures and adjust If necessary in all remaining tyres including the spare If you have one. Just by keeping your tyres correctly Inflated will save you ££££££££ in the long run by cutting fuel costs.

Toyo 888's

Just fitted my first set of Toyo 888's to a Volve 850, its going to be raced up at brandshatch in the near future. Very slick road leagle tyres, also favoured by the drift car drivers.

Not every garage can fit tyron bands

Have just been to a customer who called 4 different garages before us, none of them could help him with Tyron bands, and three of them were main street tyre chains! One of them is even listed on Tyrons web site as able to fit tyron bands, maybe no-one told the depot manager! So for all your Caravan tyres, tyron bands and TPMs units call Hometyre - Mobile fitting at its best.
