Wheel Balancing

How do we balance your wheels?

Having your wheels balanced should be an integral part of the fitting of a new tyre. Hometyre do not charge separately for this service when new tyres are supplied and fitted.

When a tyre is fitted to a wheel there will almost always be slightly 'heavier' parts of the assembly. This may simply be due to the manufacturing process of either the tyre or wheel. It is vitally important to have these imbalances removed using a calibrated electronic balancing machine.

There are considerable knock-on effects of unbalanced wheels aside from the irritation of the steering wheel vibrating your teeth loose. These include the premature wearing of both tyres and suspension and steering components.

It is commonly thought that a wheel cannot be accurately balanced from a mobile tyre service vehicle. In many cases, this is probably quite true! Where operators obtain power through a petrol powered generator mounted within the vehicle, the resulting vibrations running throughout the vehicle are likely to prevent the equipment from providing accurate data readings - therefore causing poorly balanced wheel/tyre assemblies.

Hometyre service vehicles were designed with this problem specifically in mind and use internal 12V power systems from secondary supplies. While balancing is carried out, no other equipment or motors are running - in fact, our technicians are trained to remain absolutely still when performing balancing cycles!
